According to a report in the Maariv newspaper, various elements in the Likud party are planning a series of meetings between the various party institutions in order to discuss "ways to move forward" in the wake of the failure of party leader Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to form a coalition following the most recent elections. The report notes that these senior party officials, among them veteran members and even "founders of the party," comprise around twenty percent of the approximately 3,700 central party members. They have apparently sent a letter to Finance Minister Yisrael Katz, who also serves as party secretary, requesting of him that he summon a meeting of the party's Central Committee, "in order to decide In how respond to political developments at this time."Katz has yet to respond to their letter, and several of the officials involved in the initiative have suggested that if he fails to do so, they will turn instead to the party's internal legal apparatus.

The Deputy Minister for Internal Security, Gadi Yevarkan, told Galei Tzahal this morning that he believes a commission of inquiry should be established to investigate the tragedy that occurred in Meron In Lag b'Omer."There is no other option," Yevarkan said. "An independent body, established by the government, has to deal with the issues involved in a systematic way, not just focusing In individual details. The notion that the Police Investigatory Department should be investigating the way the police itself behaved at the scene is absurd."
